No 23 The Final Frontier

Well who would have believed it. I am finally at the end of this journey. It has at times been utterly frustrating, very time consuming and at times very rewarding. I don't think I am a blogger at heart but have enjoyed seeing other peoples blogs including my granchildrens. It has helped me grow in confidence and explore things I would otherwise never have done. I still have difficulty remembering how to transfer images and find it's a trial and error situation as I have never had tuition in this area. Fortunately I have very understanding work colleague's who have been there for me. I would like to thank everyone of you for your support, help and imput into my being able to work through this programme and the lovely comments you left on my blog. Hang in there if you aren't finished, there is a life away from blogging and light at the end of the tunnel.

This is TrendyGran signing off.

Podcast

Well I did have fun trying to achieve this podcast and transfer it to my bloglines http://www.bloglines.com/blog/TrendyGran. Hopefully it has been successful and you too can have a listen to this podcast. I could't find anything in particular relating to New Zealand at the olympics but that's not to say there isn't anything there.

Video

I checked the video clips and did a few searches. I found that very interesting and played a little bit of one. It would be handy to see what is out there and has a particular programme been put onto video yet or not. I notice it referred you to "youtube" quite a bit of the time which means you could go straight to that site. There seemed to be alot of music clips also, but I'm not sure if I would use that. Maybe if you wanted to sample some type of music before investing in it on CD it would be very handy.

ebooks

http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/scores/top I had a look at this website, but found you would have to download the book and as it was large book I had chosen I did not do this. I found this a very interesting site though, but don't think I would read books on line unless I was needing to find something in particular for a project. I did notice you could get CD's and DVD's for free on this site which may be of interest in the future. I would still prefer to curl up and read a real book.

Podcasts

http://games.podcast.com/ I had a look at Podcasts but don't think I would use it much. I also had a look at itunes but it's not really my thing either. Very good for people who want to have music playing while doing other things. I notice people of my generation don't like noise when concentrating but my childrens generation can't seem to work without music playing in the background.

Youtube commercial from 1960's.

This is a 1960's commercial which had a doll that my sister had as a child. It is made of a softer plastic than the doll I had. Mine was a pedigree doll called a "Walkie Talkie" which I still have in my possession.

My Google Docs! test
This is a test to see if I can export this to my blog. The set up is very similar to using a spreadsheet on microsoft. I don't know if I would bother to use this as I have my laptop at home and only do work that is applicable to me and not share with others.

Zoho Writer and Google Docs!

I created an account in Zoho Writer but then found it wouldn't let me in. Said there was a problem both on my laptop and work computer. Not to be deterred I had a go in Google Docs. I wrote a small document and will try and export it into my blog. I did think that Zoho writer could be of value to maybe groups that are doing a project together such as writing a club magazine and they can all have imput and edit it before it is published. I noticed on Google Docs that it doesn't have so many fonts etc, not like microsoft word so that may be a bit limiting for some people. All in all very interesting.

7th Week

I had a look at Bebo, My Space and Facebook. This isn't something I would do. I don't go on the net enough at home to keep this up with my friends and am kept pretty busy with my life away from work. I can see the benefits for those who are interested and want to keep up friends who maybe overseas and see photos etc, but feel email is just as good. I wouldn't want my details attached to other peoples social groups either. I had a good look at facebook and discovered there were 11 other people out there with the same name as me, so that was interesting. I understand that if you are on line in Facebook and someone on your friends group comes on at the same time you can communicate with them, which would be very rewarding, especially if they are overseas. The other site I went on to was called http://www.oldfriends.co.nz/ and I really enjoyed that. I went in under the schools I went to and the years I was there and recognised several names and read about the people I knew. Maybe some of you would like to do that also.

Technorati, PLCMC Learning 2.0 and Del.icio.us

I had a browse around each of these web sites and read the comments on them. Found The Technorari one has a lot of different links and gossip which doesn't appeal to me. The PLCMC Learning 2.0 was interesting to read others progress and comments of encouragement. The Del.icio.us website is probably good for those who go on the internet and have favourite sites they visit and can bookmark them. If you are using tags, I don't see the difference to when I'm on a site, like google, like it and put it in my favourites to link to again.
